DichtLicht op het verleden | The Story of the Rellum Family
Until 2 February, the story of the Surinamese Rellum family will be central in the Tschumi Pavilion on Hereplein. Stadjer Theo Rellum (1935) tells about his family history, which starts in the nineteenth century in Suriname and ends in the Netherlands via Indonesia. In this video he tells a small part of this family story.
City poet Myron Hamming wrote a poem inspired by his story; the light artwork by Lambert Kamps in the glass pavilion shows meaningful words from sunset. A QR code at the artwork leads to an audio fragment in which the city poet recites his poem and to the family story of the Rellum family.
Until March 18, 2022, the exhibition DichtLicht op het verleden will share personal stories of Groningers about the impact of the slavery past in their (family) lives. The poems alternate every two weeks.
