Michal Kruger
Michal Kruger (Johannesburg, South Africa, 1994) is a visual artist.
“My art is the journey to the crossroads of nostalgia and shame. I try to create an environment where my memories are intercepted by the contradictions of my background. Growing up as a white South African, I find myself in an ever-changing state. How did my memories of farms and safaris and landscapes and gates and electric gates arise?
I am the unreliable narrator of my story, but someone who tries to paint a larger brush that connects the geography of the Netherlands with South Africa. I find myself a constant tourist, both at home and on the road, as I scrounge up icons and stereotypes. Everything has gone orange, white, blue!”
About project 'Lucht'
The corona measures have hit the art sector enormously. Exhibitions and art grants have been canceled or postponed. It is an uncertain time for many artists. With the Lucht project, Kunstpunt Groningen wants to support artists and designers from the municipality of Groningen. 87 Groningen artists have received a stipend with which they have created new work, including Michal Kruger. With a billboard exhibition from September 27 to October 17, we present all artists spread throughout the city of Groningen. View the work of the other artists here.
