TEST series
“By working with almost any material I can get my hands on, my making process is intuitive, impulsive, pathetic, impractical and absurd. My temporary machine-driven kinetic sculptures, the TEST00 series, might appear scrappy at first sight. However, when the assembled materials are documented and projected frame-by-frame, the sculptures reveal an organic and almost seductive quality. Sometimes I disassemble my own work; more often, the machine-driven sculptures are actually self-destructive. The same materials that appear in the TEST films reappear in the interactive viewing environment because I continuously recycle my old work into new sculptures. Instead of hiding the traces that reveal past histories of the objects, I foster and allow them to condition the aesthetics.
For the Lucht project I would like to do a continuation of my TEST series that will consist of video documentation recording actions and sounds of various materials and objects. I would like to use these test videos to build a virtual environment in an oculus rift that will present the test videos in an interesting way. I also intend to build a real environment of sculpture forms that relate to the digital environments in some way.”
About project 'Lucht'
The corona measures have hit the art sector enormously. Exhibitions and art grants have been canceled or postponed. It is an uncertain time for many artists. With the Lucht project, Kunstpunt Groningen wants to support artists and designers from the municipality of Groningen. 87 Groningen artists have received a stipend with which they have created new work, including Lee McDonald. With a billboard exhibition from September 27 to October 17, we present all artists spread throughout the city of Groningen. View the work of the other artists here.
