Eirik Jahnsen

Eirik Jahnsen (Bergen, Norway, 1985) is a visual artist based in Groningen. He graduated from the Frank Mohr Institute in 2021.

“These days I’m developing my style of installation work, combining objects and materials in an expressive and direct way. With this work I try to activate people with their senses and curiosity through colors and shapes and I look for ways to to make it more immersive and less static I see my installations as ruins, a place left by human activity that invites you to hang out and create new energy, and a place where you feel free to change the environment and do what you want. It’s about transformation and exploration. They are what I call a three-dimensional collage or a space painting. I use colorful and reflective sculptures made of sheet metal, combined with charred wood, textile, paint, plastic and contingencies that come out of the process coming. It is based on an intuitive way of dealing with space and materials. My plan is to create a dark and raw s atmosphere and I am looking for a suitable location to transform into an activating, strange and inquiring place. This is a project in progress.”

About project 'Lucht'

The corona measures have hit the art sector enormously. Exhibitions and art grants have been canceled or postponed. It is an uncertain time for many artists. With the Lucht project, Kunstpunt Groningen wants to support artists and designers from the municipality of Groningen. 87 Groningen artists have received a stipend with which they have created new work, including Eirik Jahnsen. With a billboard exhibition from September 27 to October 17, we present all artists spread throughout the city of Groningen. View the work of the other artists here.
