Artwork for student housing on Antillenstraat
Art commissions for companies
Client: Nijestee Vastgoedontwikkeling
Between Antillenstraat and Oosterhamrikkade in the Korrewegwijk district, four container blocks with 204 student studios have been created. On the four front sides of the residential blocks, space has been reserved for a work of art on each facade.
The construction of the four residential blocks fits within the urban development of the Berlage plan as it was implemented after the war. The new building structure has created a common courtyard with facilities around which the rooms are located and oriented. The residential buildings are accessible from Star Numanstraat. Architectural readability and colour ensure integration into the neighbourhood and the streetscape.
Design commission
Jenne Hoekstra was asked to create a design for the four facades on the end walls of the residential blocks on Antillenstraat. On each facade a frame of etalbond (a composite panel) is mounted, with space for the artwork.
In early July, the first two works of art from De Vier Jaargetijden (The Four Seasons) were hung. These were Spring and Autumn; the style reminds us very much of Japanese prints and Jugendstil. In December, the other two works were installed.
