Rik Hagt (Heerenveen, 1962) graduated from the Academy of Visual Arts Minerva in Groningen. He paints and draws, and takes his subjects from his immediate environment, in the firm belief that the most personal is also the most universal. In other words: the deeper you dig into yourself, the closer you come to the essence of being human. The common thread in his work is a series entitled "Hotel Room": every year a painting is added, representing the interior of a room - at home or abroad - where he actually stayed. The thirtieth Hotel Room was celebrated in 2020 with a retrospective exhibition in Kunstpunt Groningen (then Center for Visual Arts).
