In my artistic work, I combine my love for form and composition with the self-developed technique of ‘tape transfers’. I use pieces of regular masking tape to tear fibers, shreds or fragments from old documents. This paper attached to the tape is raw material I then use to build my stories layer by layer. I made my first ever tape transfer collage in 1999. Since then, I have incorporated kilometers of tape into my art. I prefer to work with old books and magazines, sometimes more than a century old. Before starting a work, I choose the images I want to use in the collage. The images, colors and sizes I choose influence the final composition. When working with tape transfers, I allow myself to be guided by what happens to the fibers and shreds of paper of the original image when I pull off a new piece of tape. I, too, continue to be surprised. I’m wrapping the resulting abstract works in a layer of epoxy.
