Mara Piccione (graduated from Academie Minerva in 2002) is a screen printing artist. From her colourful screen printing studio in Warffum, she combines graphic-abstract screen prints with the collage technique. Through years of using graphic techniques, her work has developed from figurative to abstract.

Her visual language originates from everyday finds such as a coffee stain, a shard or a piece of waste wood. A seemingly unimportant object such as a pebble or a flattened handkerchief can suddenly play the leading role in one of her works through striking lines. Her studio, the tools used and the traces left by the process also increasingly play a role in her visual language. The grid of the cutting mat, the drying racks, the pattern of holes in the screen printing table and the colour testers of the screen printing inks; they are increasingly found in her recent work.
