Maaike Nijlunsing

Painting

Maaike Nijlunsing makes paintings of various sizes, the common denominator of which is her preference for dilapidated industrial heritage.
The scenes she paints often have their origins in a trip at home or abroad. Where there is great and impressive (industrial) heritage, Maaike likes to travel there, equipped with her camera, which nowadays is simply in the phone.

In recent years she has made many beautiful trips, including to Peenemünde and Wünsdorf in Germany, as well as Bydgoszcz in Poland.
She processes the photos she takes on site into paintings in her studio. The decay becomes visible in the layering and 'skin' of the paint. The interplay of lines and the resulting suggestion of spaciousness play the leading role.

Maaike graduated from the Minerva Academy in Groningen in 2000 and passed the teacher training course at the same academy in 2005.

Maaike lives and works in Noordbroek, Groningen.
