Laura van Gaans

Photography, Painting, Drawing

Laura van Gaans (1979) is a visual artist who is involved in photography, drawing, painting and collage. In her work, she investigates how we frame our environment and try to get a grip on the world around us. This search stems from her own need for structure in an ever-changing, often overwhelming reality. Her artworks balance between figurative and abstract and are characterized by the play with time, boundaries, composition and layering.

With a keen eye for structure and perspective, Laura focuses on ordering chaos and accepting the unpredictable. Her work is a search for balance between control and letting go. How do we define our reality? How do we structure our environment to get a grip on it?

By exploring these questions, she creates images that not only reflect her own need for something to hold on to, but also invite the viewer to think about how we shape and structure our reality
