Jantine Koppert
Growing up at a cut flower nursery, Jantine Koppert was confronted from an early age with the influence of the earth and the elements on daily work and the influence of human actions on the surrounding nature. This is an inexhaustible source for her work. These interactions have always fascinated her and the tension between vitality and vulnerability often returns in her work. She likes to use versatile materials that can sometimes evoke contradictory associations.
Since graduating in 1999 from Constantijn Huijgens, the artschool in Kampen, she has worked for years with textiles, metal wire and paper. Her desire to create more transparency led to her wanting to use the material glass. To learn to work with this better, she followed a course at the glass department of IKA in Mechelen (BE), where she graduated in 2024.
She is currently working on a series that focuses on the disappearance of ethics as soon as a crop becomes a commodity when money is involved. The reason was a report on abuses in coffee bean and cocoa cultivation and trade.
