Spatial work

Charlie Holper makes abstract colorful textile works that vary between being 2 and 3 dimensional. Their installations can be described as paintings you can walk into and their wall works as pieces of installations that walked off to live on their own.

They work with a minimal visual vocabulary, with lots of repetition.

They are focused on the movement of string, the organic shapes and tangled knots it creates when left unattended. String very much has a mind of its own and working with it is an act of negotiation between Holpers ideas and the will of the string.

Which is highlighted in their recent installations which include motors to animate the string constructs.

Furthermore textiles invite touch. Something that Holper is also exploring in their installations. They make colorful environments that you can enter and play with. Allowing you to touch the work and experience it with your entire body rather than just your eyes to foster a more playful approach to it.
