Zwijntje (Piglet)
Bastiaan de Groot
About this artwork.
The granite wild boar in the green area of the Raadhuisplein was made by Bastiaan de Groot. After his training at ABK Minerva in Sweden, De Groot became skilled in the technique of carving in natural stone. Zwijntje is a result of this. The statue is loved by the Haren shoppers, especially children who regularly pet and climb the animal.
About the assignment.
Since 2011, the Hortus Haren has organized an 8xSOLO sculpture exhibition every summer, showing work by eight artists. The seventh edition took place in 2017. To draw the attention of the shoppers of Haren to this outdoor exhibition, Zwijntje was posted in the center of Haren. The Groningen sculptor Bastiaan de Groot (1948) was one of the participants of 8xSOLO.
