Peter de Kan, Albert Geertjes

About this artwork.

In 2001 Albert Geertjes and Peter de Kan designed three fences for the passage under the Martinitoren, which are meant to prevent public urination. The fences consist of stainless steel bars, each in the shape of an organ pipe with a Gothic curl at the top. The different lengths of the bars form a gentle arch which, together with the stone arch above it, is a perfect oval. The outer bars stand on the ground and serve as the carrier and pivot point of the fence. In the curled parts of the organ pipes lights are attached, so that in the evening puddles are literally and figuratively put on display under the lights.
