Untitled (2 elements)

Albert Geertjes, Maarten Schmitt

About this artwork.

The bridge over the Winschoterdiep has an explicitly visible technique: large hydraulic cylinders, each with a small pump house, act as eye-catchers on both sides of the bridge deck.

The pump houses, which are shaped like towers, are a joint design by the architect of the bridge Maarten Schmitt and designer Albert Geertjes. A glass structure protrudes from the upper part of the towers, which is illuminated from below. Rotating blue filters above the lamps create the appearance of flames. To combat vandalism, the glass structure is made entirely of laminated glass. A total of approximately 7000 kilos of glass has been cut and sawn into large and small triangles for the piece.
