The Lonely Cyclist (De Eenzame Fietser)
Rein Bril
About this artwork.
The Lonely Cyclist is a colourful landmark in the landscape northwest of Ten Boer. This cyclist is seated on a Penny Farthing – a 19th century bicycle with a large front wheel and a small rear wheel – with his hair blowing in the wind, six metres about the ground. And his handlebar is a weather vane. As the wind-driven rotor blade catches the wind, it sets the gearbox in motion and the cyclist’s legs start moving.
Rein Bril's work of art was purchased by the municipality of Ten Boer to mark the completion of the cycle path to Thesinge, which crosses the Boersterweg here.
