Muurschildering Noordzeewegtunnel (Mural North Sea Road Tunnel)

Martin van der Werf

About this artwork.

As if you are suddenly cycling into a storybook: in the Noordzeewegtunnel you are surrounded by murals of the ugly duckling, the girl with the matchsticks, Longneck, the Chinese nightingale. In addition, many other well-known and lesser-known fairytale characters decorate the walls.

Martin van der Werf paints his paintings in cheerful, bright colours. He first sketches his figures on the wall with charcoal, then elaborates them with paint. Completely painting the tunnel was a labor-intensive process that took more than a year, including the winter break. In addition to these murals in the Noordzeewegtunnel, Van der Werf's murals can also be seen on the Groningerweg, the Andelstermaar, and the Beijumerweg.

Location.

Bedumerweg (fietstunnel onder Bedumerweg)
