Landscape (Landschap)

Maggi Giles

About this artwork.

For the entrance to the Coendershof nursing home, Maggi Giles designed a wall sculpture in high and low relief that is over ten metres wide and about four metres high. The multicoloured mosaic of clay shows a landscape with animals. The implementation was carried out in cooperation with N.V. Royal Delft pottery factory "De Porcelijne Fles" in Delft.

The contract was made under the “percentage regulation”. This regulation, which was instituted by the State in 1951, stipulated that 1 to 1.5 percent of the building sum could be earmarked for “decorative decoration”, which was understood to mean “the installation of permanent artwork of a monumental character”.

The new nursing home was built in 2014. The artwork has been moved from the entrance to the outside of the building.
