Facade decorations (Geveldecoraties - 18 pieces)
Siep van den Berg
About this artwork.
Various end facades of housing blocks in the Selwerd district are decorated with geometric lines and shapes, all of which come from the hands of Siep van den Berg, who contrasts his light brick designs against the red-brick houses.
Siep van den Berg started painting freely in around 1935, and as an artist, subsequently developed from pure naturalism, via impressionism and cubism, to constructivism, which is characterised by the purely imaginative way of expression. In the 1970s, he made various mouldings and murals. Geometry was his source of inspiration. Again and again, the artist variated with horizontal and vertical, with lines and blocks – using only the colours red, yellow, blue, black and white. At the same time, he brought dynamism and rhythm to the work through the pattern of shapes and colours.
