Dovetail (Zwaluwstaart)
René de Boer
About this artwork.
Dovetail consists of a combination of rusty Corten steel and plain stainless steel and is characterised by a sober and restrained imagery. The title refers to the dovetail joint; a joint used in woodworking to join wooden parts together.
There are a number of sculptures by René de Boer in the city of Groningen. Initially, the artist worked mainly with brass, a metal mixture of copper and zinc. Head Over Heels (Rollebollen) and Sit Node (Zitknobbels) are two works of art by De Boer, which are made from this material. Both are therefore representative of the works that the artist created in the 1970s. Around 1980, René de Boer also started to work with Corten steel.
