Bygone Times (Vervlogen Tijden)
Klaas Lageweg
About this artwork.
On the wall near a corner building, next to the police station, is a metre-high piece of graffiti depicting a pigeon spreading its wings, making ready to fly. But this city pigeon is pulling a farmer and his milk cart. To bring it into the modern era, pixels have been incorporated into the artwork. Lageweg incorporates pixels more and more frequently into his paintings, referring to the approach as “real-pixelism”. According to Lageweg, pixels add a modern spin to his work, in keeping with the times.
Artist Klaas Lageweg realised this particular mural in consultation with the property owner, the tenant and the municipality of Groningen. Bygone Times depicts farmer Roelf Bierling, the last occupant of the farm at Rademarkt 27, which is now a parking garage.
