Open Call The Wall #5

Where are you? Where do you want to go? Are you curious about the development in your work when you can make a transition to a large format? Then you definitely don’t want to miss the fifth edition of our project The Wall.

With this semi-residency, we offer you as an artist the opportunity to experiment with scale and our site specifics. These steps go beyond what you have explored so far in your artistic career. Central to this is the enormous wall of the main hall in Kunstpunt, which is an impressive 22 meters wide and 9 meters high. This 200 square meters, with skylights above that provide even lighting throughout the day, offers a unique opportunity for an artist to develop and execute work conceptually and physically on a large scale. You can find a floor plan of the space here.

Collaboration

For The Wall #5, Kunstpunt is collaborating with visual artist Aimée Terburg. During your process, Aimée Terburg will guide you as a coach, and Sander Vermeulen will assist you as the project leader from Kunstpunt.

DURATION AND PUBLIC EVENT

The Wall #5 project runs from September 23 to November 2, 2024. These six weeks will be dedicated to working on a large format at Kunstpunt. During this period, there will be a public event where you, as the artist, are expected to present to an interested audience. This will take the form of an Art Talk about your progress, discoveries, and experiences during the process.

COMPENSATION

The selected artist will receive an art budget of up to € 4,500 excluding VAT. This budget includes a fee of € 3,000 excluding VAT and a material and execution budget of up to € 1,500 excluding VAT. This execution budget is intended for renting and/or purchasing materials and/or hiring personnel. A wall-high scaffold will be available to you during the working period. Kunstpunt will provide a white wall at the start and, if necessary, make it white again after the exhibition.

INTERESTED?

Is creating a grand and monumental work a challenge you want to take on? Write a motivation letter explaining how you would like to use this opportunity to take this new step. The work can be 2D or 3D, or anything in between. Besides the wall surface, the space can also be part of your exploration. What can The Wall #5 offer you, what does a wall mean to you, and why is this so important to you right now?

As part of the application for this semi-residency, you should also include a general timeline/plan indicating what you intend to explore during this period.

PITCH AFTERNOON

Are you intrigued but still have questions or don’t have a direct idea yet? Come to the walk-in pitch afternoon on Monday, June 24, from 3:30 PM to 6:00 PM at Kunstpunt. You can individually present your idea within a 15-minute time slot. You can get acquainted with the space, the size, and the scale and discuss with the mentors. Additionally, a slideshow of artworks by artists in relation to walls will be displayed. This open house will help you discover what The Wall can offer you. You can also apply for the open call without attending the pitch afternoon.
