Open Call The Wall #4

Where do you stand? Where do you want to go? Are you curious about the development in your work when you can make a translation to a large format? Then you certainly don’t want to miss the forth edition of our project The Wall.

With this project we offer you as an artist the opportunity to experiment on a scale that extends beyond what you have explored in your artistry so far. The starting point here is the enormous wall of the large hall in Kunstpunt, which is no less than 22 meters wide by 9 meters high. This wall of almost 200 square meters, with skylights above that provide an even light throughout the day, offers a unique opportunity for an artist to develop and execute work on a large scale. In addition to the wall surface, the triangular floor and ceiling can also be part of the study. A map of the space can be found here.

Collaboration

For The Wall #4, Kunstpunt collaborates with visual artist Aimée Terburg. Terburg guides you as an inspiration and Kunstpunt guides you through the process.

Duration and audience moment

The project The Wall #4 runs from April 8 to May 24, 2024. These are 7 weeks to work at Kunstpunt on a large format. During this period there will be a public moment where you as an artist are expected to present yourself to an interested audience about the progress, discoveries and experiences. This will be in the form of an art talk.

Compensation

The selected artist receives an art budget of a maximum of € 4.500 excluding VAT. This budget consists of a fee of € 3.000 excluding VAT + a material and implementation budget of a maximum of € 1.500 excluding VAT. This implementation budget is intended for, for example, the rental of equipment and/or hiring of personnel. You will have a wall-high scaffolding at your disposal for the working period. Kunstpunt provides a white wall at the start and makes it opaque white again at the end of the work period.

Interested?

Is this a challenge you want to take on? Write a motivation in which you indicate how you would like to use the opportunity to create a great and monumental work. The work can be 2D or 3D. Part of the registration is a global timeline/planning in which you indicate roughly what you want to research during this period.

Inspirational lecture

Is your curiosity aroused, but do you still have questions or do you not have an immediate hunch? Then come to the Visual Lecture + Q&A with Aimée Terburg on Monday Februari 19 from 3:30 to 6:00 p.m. in Kunstpunt (Trompsingel 27a). You can already get acquainted with the space, the size and scale and enter into a conversation with the supervisors to discover what The Wall can offer you. Register for this afternoon by emailing sandervermeulen@kunstpuntgroningen.nl. It is of course also possible to register for the open call without attending this afternoon.
