‘My work is about identity, connection and intimacy. Where I pay attention to shapes, postures and the alienation it can cause. I show what normally remains hidden.

Growing up in an artist’s family with a father as a graphic artist, I learned to look at main shapes and lines. Because I work with stencils, I pay a lot of attention to shapes and surfaces and this way of seeing forms the basis of my work in both my photography and my linocuts.

In a world where everyone has to and wants to look perfect, my attention is focused on the so-called ‘imperfections’. For example, I can be fascinated by an imprint of a piece of clothing on the skin. Or, for example, by removing a forgotten hair.

My working method is a continuous search for a balance between composition and vulnerability, abstraction and figurative.

Human Shapes
An investigation into alienation. Using the basic shape of the human body as a starting point, primordial forms are exposed in an anthropomorphic manner in photography, graphics and sculptures.

Stripped of various aspects and vital forms, the essence and function of the human body remain clearly recognizable and questions about vulnerability, losing humanity and becoming a form emerge.’

The display window of the former Vapiano building on Nieuwe Markt has been temporarily designated as a pop-up art rental service in 2024. Every two weeks, a piece by a Groningen artist will be featured in the center window. This artwork is also available for purchase or rent through Kunstpunt’s art rental service.

Additionally, the window alternately shows work from the regular Art Rental Collection and the Studio Collection – art that comes directly from the studios of northern artists.
