About Christine van der Cingel
Christine van der Cingel (1966) graduated in ‘free painting’ from the Minerva Academy and makes oil paintings. Her subjects are usually views and cityscapes, dancers, swimmers, portraits and in recent years especially animals.
When painting animals the emphasis is on stillness. The animal is often solitary in its environment.Her animals are always depicted monumentally, like primordial creatures in cave paintings. “I am fascinated by the idea that you could ‘capture’ something large and comprehensive in a painting,” she says.
About the display window
The display window of the former Vapiano building on Nieuwe Markt has been temporarily designated as a pop-up art rental service in 2024. Every two weeks, a piece by a Groningen artist will be featured in the center window. This artwork is also available for purchase or rent through Kunstpunt’s art rental service.
Additionally, the window alternately shows work from the regular Art Rental Collection and the Studio Collection – art that comes directly from the studios of northern artists.
