From still lifes to landscapes: artist Rutger Hiemstra paints the beautiful things in life

“I really enjoy tackling reality with paint and brushes”, says the Groningen artist Rutger Hiemstra (1975). From October 21, his colorful work can be seen in the solo exhibition The Usual Stuff in the Kunstuitleen of Kunstpunt.

Hiemstra calls himself a 'figurative painter'. His subjects range from still lifes of food, gardens and (dead) animals to landscape paintings of Groningen and the Alps: “I try to paint as many different subjects as possible. There are so many beautiful things in life.” All works are not only on display, but also on loan or for sale. The exhibition opens Friday, October 21 at 12 noon.
