Together with volunteers and residents of Volkshortus Selwerd, we celebrated a beautiful harvest festival yesterday. Wethouder Kirsten de Wrede inaugurated the event, emphasizing the societal impact of the project.
Since its opening in April, Volkshortus has transformed into a green oasis and a true gathering place for neighborhood residents. They have cultivated a wide variety of plants and flowers, including zucchinis, Tibetan cucumbers, peppers, and pumpkins, just to name a few.
Artists Saskia Janssen and George Korsmit conceived Volkshortus with the intention of creating a portrait of the neighborhood residents and their diversity through plants.
The success of Volkshortus is largely attributed to the volunteers who have enthusiastically managed the greenhouse in recent months.
