ESNS ART 2024

For several years, ESNS and Kunstpunt have joined forces for ESNS Art, an initiative aimed at surprising festival-goers with art from (local) artists. This year, we have invited artist Michiel Teeuw to reflect on the possible future. In his new performance piece Rocks, Resting, he intriguingly addresses a very current theme: the depleted society. You can witness the impressive result on the Grote Markt from January 18th to 20th. ESNS Art is free to access.

Rocks, Resting

The performance Rocks, Resting forms an oasis of peace and quiet in the middle of the bustling festival and city centre on the Grote Markt. With the performance, artist Michiel Teeuw investigates our exhausted society. Why are so many people exhausted, and what would a rested society look like? Can we make space for other life rhythms in our high-speed society? To explore these questions, Michiel works with all kinds of people: exhausted by illness and disability, burnouts and societal discrimination. The performance will take place intermittently on the Grote Markt during Eurosonic Air.

Toekomstschrijven

How does the young generation view our society of exhaustion? During workshops run by Michiel Teeuw and Cissy Joan, students from the Montessori (vak)lyceum in Groningen reflected on this. The result is a series of typographic posters, in which they take positions on topics such as exhaustion, work pressure, mental health and the economy. New posters will be added every day during the festival.

About Michiel Teeuw

Michiel Teeuw is an artist and designer working in between image, text and action. He likes to read and think. Most of his work promotes a tactile, critical and direct engagement with the systems around him/us/you. This can take many forms, like executing a performance, designing a publication, or facilitating groups. He holds a bachelor of ‘graphic and interactive design’ at academy Minerva.
