East wall Grote Markt
Cees Muller
About this artwork.
Cees Muller (born 1941) is a draftsman, watercolorist, pen artist, pastelist and painter who studied in Rotterdam. During his career, Muller became self-proficient in the various techniques. In Paris he experimented with colors and combinations of styles, which would eventually result in the mature style we find in Muller's paintings today, perhaps best described as realistic impressionism. Muller is highly praised by art critics for his distinct artistic appearance and unique style. Apart from his attractive views of the city of Paris, he remained connected to the Dutch landscapes and seascapes and especially the urban scenes in Amsterdam. Muller gained respect for a wide range of exhibitions.
In 2009, Thim Muskee (of Galerie Muskee) went looking for a painter who wanted to make a specific cityscape on behalf of the municipality. He approached Cees Muller, who was subsequently asked to create a work in memory of the east wall of the Grote Markt, which would be given a completely new look in the years that followed. When the work was finished, Thim Muskee donated the original work to the municipality.
