1 April 2025 to 30 April 2025

About this activity.

From 1 to 30 April 2025, Marius de Schaar, artist from Vinkhuizen, will exhibit a bouquet of paper cut-out art in red paper ‘White Dragon with Peonies’ in window gallery ‘De Prachtvink’ at shopping centre Vinkhuizen, Platinalaan 505a, 9743 GZ Groningen.

‘White Dragon with Peonies’ is a cut-out in red paper measuring 40 x 60 cm and belongs to the online sustainable flower stall of Marius de Schaar, https://geknipteboeketten.blogspot.nl.

Flowers and bouquets are no longer what they used to be.Since the beginning of this century, they have mainly been grown in Africa and as a result there is a lot of pollution due to transport and poison used in cultivation. In addition, there is also all kinds of packaging material. All of that is not very sustainable and not good for people and the environment.Nowadays there are rightly some doubts about the traditional bunch of flowers… But people love flowers! For thousands of years.  And also for thousands of years, artists have been making images of flowers and bouquets. The bouquet still life celebrated its heyday in the paintings of  Dutch masters in the 17th century.Marius de Schaar likes to join that tradition and in 2024 he started cutting sustainable bouquets in paper, an original alternative to a bunch  of roses in foil.He frames the bouquets sustainably in frames from the thrift shop.

‘The White Dragon’ is a bouquet in Chinese style: the white dragon on the vase symbolizes purity, the peony is the most beloved flower of the Realm of the Middle and the red color stands for prosperity. That color is also used for the traditional New Year's paper cutouts.

Marius de Schaar has been a cutout artist since 2009. He makes New Dutch paper cutouts. He likes to get his subjects from his immediate environment, from toothpaste to garbage cans.Marius has a special interest in flowers and architecture. With paper and scissors he cuts sustainable bouquets, which do not use poison and which do not wilt.

Marius de Schaar has exhibited in various galleries and museums, including the Rijksmuseum. His work is included in various private collections.

The window gallery is an exhibition space that can only be viewed from the outside, but then 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The gallery is lit until 23:00. A new work of art by an artist is exhibited every month.
