The Wall #4
About this activity.
What happens when an artist scales up their work to a larger format? Beth Wong takes on the experiment in The Wall #4, the fourth edition of The Wall project. From April 8th to May 18th, she will be working on an artwork covering nearly 200 square meters.
You can track the development of Beth's work at Kunstpunt. Visit Wednesday through Saturday between 12 PM and 5 PM.
THE WALL: AN OPPORTUNITY TO EXPERIMENT
Artists rarely have the chance to experiment on a large scale. However, working in public spaces, such as art on facades, squares, and parking garages, requires some practice. That's why Kunstpunt Groningen initiated The Wall project. On an indoor wall at Kunstpunt measuring nearly 200 square meters, artists have the unique opportunity to freely create. Project leader Sander Vermeulen says, "The project aims to help the artist take a step into a new way of working, reaching scales and dimensions beyond what they have explored before."
Kunstpunt provides The Wall as a precursor to commissioned work in public spaces, responding to artists' demand for space for research and experimentation.
ABOUT BETH WONG
Beth Wong's work (Hong Kong, 1998) is a collection of poetic fragments from her immediate surroundings. She draws inspiration from the stories and materials found in the outskirts of the city that often go unnoticed. Using painting and other media, she translates her observations to offer an alternative perspective on reality. She earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2019. In 2023, she graduated from the Groningen-based Frank Mohr Institute.
