Symbiotic Reflections
About this activity.
The imposing and space-filling artwork Symbiotic Reflections by artist Jimi Kleinbruinink can be admired this spring at the Tschumipaviljoen. Passersby can recognize in the sculpture a interplay of artificial and natural elements. Kleinbruinink has incorporated materials such as mirrors, plexiglass, bamboo, and branches from the nearby freshly pruned chestnut tree.
Symbiotic Reflections is constructed from various layers, creating a networkstructure reminiscent of the natural growth of trees, root systems, or nervous systems. At the heart of the installation lies a rotating core, powered by small motors that elegantly maneuver the sculpture through space. Around the core, you can see various materials such as mirrors and transparent plexiglass. These materials reflect the surroundings of the Tschumipaviljoen and naturally break the light that enters. Thus, the installation appears different in the pavilion depending on the lighting. Kleinbruinink is excited about the transparent exhibition space: "The Tschumipaviljoen offers a unique opportunity to merge my work with the location and create something new."
Symbiotic Reflections can be admired at the Tschumipavilion throughout this spring. The installation will be visible day and night until June 22nd.
About Jimi Kleinbruinink
Jimi Kleinbruinink (Groningen, 1987) graduated from Minerva Art Academy in autonomous visual arts in 2013. Since then, he has exhibited in cities such as The Hague, Eindhoven, and Groningen. His art has also been featured at various festivals such as Grasnapolsky, ESNS Art, and Luna. Kleinbruinink describes his work: "I embrace the unpredictability of my art. My works are both large and light, defying gravity. It's a balance between tight and organic forms, an exercise in improvisation within a fixed structure."
