Now in the Kunstuitleen: Alida Everts
About this activity.
The latest work by artist Alida Everts can be seen from 27 January in Kunstpunt Groningen's Kunstuitleen. In the solo presentation Volle Vazen (Full Vases), paintings, collages and ceramic objects can be viewed that come directly from the artist's studio. The plant and flower world is central to Everts' work. In particular, the process of the emergence, flowering and transience of plants is what fascinates her.
Everts captures her love for plants and flowers in a wide variety of styles and materials. Sometimes more figurative, sometimes more abstract. In recent years she has increasingly sought the boundary between flat and three-dimensional work, for example by making oil paint so thick (using marble powder) that she can almost model with it.
She describes her working method as: 'Playing with the things you have'. She likes to experiment, combine techniques, and get results through mistakes. “For my spatial work I consciously choose the material clay, because this is the earth within which the cycle takes place. The clay is kneaded into floral shapes in a natural way. The growth process is recorded and thus transience petrified. In my floral paintings I use pasty oil paint in combination with acrylic paint and ink.”
About Alida Everts
Alida Everts (Hoogeveen, 1951) has had a fascination for flowers and plants all her life. After graduating from high school, she studied at the Vakschool voor Bloemsierkunst in Zwolle, after which she worked as a floral artist in Hoogeveen for seven years. When she is 25 she decides to turn her life around and go to Academy Minerva: a decision that she still describes as the best decision she made in her life.
She works multidisciplinary: painting, drawing, collage and since 2015 she also makes ceramics. Everts' work is in private collections and various art lending facilities in the Netherlands. In addition, she regularly exhibits at home and abroad. In recent years, her work has been shown at Bankside Gallery in London, Museum Belvédère in Heerenveen and Galerie Block C in Groningen, among others. She has also won several prizes, including the stipend of the CODA Keramiek Triennial (Apeldoorn) in 2018, and most recently the Collage Prize of Fondation Andrée et Pierre Arty (Brussels) in December 2022.
Everts lives and works in Groningen, where she has her studio at the Noorderhaven.
The choice of Alida Everts
For this exhibition, Everts also shows her favorite works from the collection of the Kunstuitleen. “I have chosen works from artists I have known, followed, admired for a long time, and whose work I see hanging in my room every day.” In addition, she also chose work by artists she followed from a distance, and where she was struck by, among other things, enthusiasm and humour. “Different styles appear in this choice. I think this is also the freedom I give myself in my work, by combining different styles and techniques and playing with them.
Atelier collection: Solo
Volle Vazen is part of the Atelier Collection: Solo series in which artists present their work directly from the studio in a solo exhibition at Kunstpunt Groningen. The exhibition can be visited from 27 January to 25 March 2023 in the Kunstuitleen. Those who want to look at the paintings of Alida Everts for longer can borrow and/or buy them at Kunstpunt.
