Something Old Something New
About this activity.
Sometimes beautiful works that have not been sold after their first exhibition remain in a gallery stockroom or in the artist's studio for years. After a conversation during an art fair, the idea arose to show previous works by two artists from the gallery to the public again. Albert Westerhoff and Victor van Loon, of course, both made new works in recent years and these are being added, so that a nice picture of the development of the artists is created. For example, the podcast series Distructie als Discours ('Distruction as Discourse') that Albert Westerhoff is still developing further. He also made a series of statues entitled 'Inverted Cliche' and new works in his series 'Eternal Beauty'. This exhibition features two works by Victor van Loon from the 'Nightshades' series: photographs of large dark 'night plants' consisting of different types of paper and cardboard, duct tape and other collage elements.
In addition, for the second time we are showing – all new – works by the Hamburg artist Janus Hochgesand. Where last time mainly large paintings with pigments were shown, this time he shows works on paper: watercolors sprinkled with pigment powders. In addition, two recent small paintings are on display, one of which is bright blue and was specially made for this exhibition.
The works in the presentation are supplemented and partly shown (Albert's images), on beautiful mid-century furniture that we borrow from store Bij de Tijd, a Groningen store with an extensive range of Scandinavian furniture, among other things.
