A week before Pink Saturday in Groningen, Koen Schuiling, mayor of Groningen, will open the PINK PASSION exhibition on Sunday, June 16. The exhibition shows passionate watercolors and paintings by Daniel Torrent (Barcelona) and refined pencil drawings by Antti Eric Joronen (Helsinki/Tallinn). It is the first time for both artists - who both live exactly 1355 km away from Groningen as the crow flies - to exhibit male art in the MooiMan gallery. This exhibition is part of the Pink Saturday and QUEER YEAR Groningen.
Spanish artist Daniel Torrent (1974) tries to show in his colorful work what people who love each other do when no one is looking. Bodies that communicate without words, that move intuitively and adapt to each other. Everyday moments without epic character, far from individualism and competitiveness, moments that we keep to ourselves and avoid showing them to others. His concept of art is a way to connect directly and emotionally with other people, recognizing through his work everything we have in common as humans.
At the heart of the artistic ethos of Estonian Antti Eric Joronen (1984) lies a profound commitment to homoerotic aesthetics, through which he seeks to articulate a story of comprehensive gender equality and freedom. This thematic coincidence is not just one choice, but a calling, as he strives to create art that sits at the intersection of historical reverence and contemporary inclusivity. Every work of art he creates is a testament to this fusion, seeking to provide a unique perspective that both honors the past and boldly advocates for a future where diversity and equality are not only recognized, but celebrated.
