Pillar pictures of Holt

About this activity.

Holt was founded in 1998 from a group of graphic artists who studied at Minerva. De 19 members work with relief printing  techniques woodcut, linocut, engraving.
Old techniques are investigated and new methods and techniques are tested.

Knowledge and experience are exchanged, there are expositions and every year there is a theme.
At our exhibition you can see the year theme of 2024: a vertical print with the ratio 1:4. This format reminds of Hoshira-e, the Japanese pillar print that was fabricated to be hung vertically on pillars.  At that time the theme was a look through a door or window opening.
The displayed objects or people were thereby strangely cut off and a lot was left to the imagination.

On Sunday 23 March, from 1:30 p.m to 4:30 p.m., there will be continuous printing demonstrations and tours, provided by Antje Veldstra and Claudia van de Leur.

Participating artists are:Angelique van Wesemael, Anne Brouwer, Antje Veldstra, Bert Hemsteede, Claudia van de Leur, Elise Madderom, Jan Erik Wedholm, Marjolein Terwindt-Wetterauw, Noëlle Poiësz, Reinoud Kuipers, Rita Lentz, Siety Bosma, Tim Blaauw, Wijke van der Bij en Willy van der Duyn.

Pictura.

Het Kunstlievend Genootschap Pictura in Groningen werd opgericht in 1832 met als doel: 'de beeldende kunst en de nijverheidskunst in de ruimste zin van het woord aan te moedigen en te bevorderen.' Pictura is gehuisvest in een mooi, monumentaal pand aan het Martinikerkhof in Groningen. In de sfeervolle zalen exposeren professionele kunstenaars van uiteenlopende richtingen en disciplines, maar de hoofdmoot is figuratief.
