Opening weekend Summer Residency - Sara Andreasson

During her artist residency at Stichting WEP, Andreasson has been working on a new sculpture series, as well as an ongoing video project. With an interest in the “in between” and inverted values, such as positive and negative shapes, she has been influenced by the colors and shapes of dutch ‘window shutters’ or ‘blinds’. Similar to their use and definition, the work reflects on the possibility to alter ones view, or as suggested within the word itself, lose sight and become blind.

Andreasson also investigates other aspects of loss, for instance the loss of knowledge experienced during the fire in the Groningen Academy building in 1906. Large parts of the university archive was saved – but not all. Where we lack knowledge of our past, could there be room for alternative stories and imagination instead.

Sara Andreasson (b.1992) is a Swedish artist, living and working in Malmö, Sweden. Andreasson studied her BFA at HDK-Valand in Gothenburg where she finished in 2017. She studied her MFA at Malmö Art Academy and graduated in 2023. Her work has been exhibited at Jedna Dva Tři Gallery (Prague, Czechia), Museum of Contemporary Art (Roskilde, Denmark), Udstillingsstedet Q (Copenhagen, Denmark) and Konstepidemin, (Gothenburg, Sweden) among others.
