23 March 2021

About this activity.

The Chair of History and Theory of Architecture and Urbanism at the RUG, the Vereniging tot Bevordering der Bouwkunst and the Academy of Architecture in Groningen, is organising a series of lectures featuring architects and urban planners.

The series starts on 23 March 2021 with a lecture by architect and urban planner Nathalie de Vries.

Nathalie de Vries has been city architect of Groningen since 1 January. She is the successor to Jeroen de Willigen, who held the position since 2015. De Vries is one of the founders of MVRDV. She is also Professor of Architectural Design at the Faculty of Architecture at TU Delft. From 2015 to 2019, De Vries was chairman of the BNA.

The city architect gives solicited and unsolicited advice on current urban design and architectural assignments in the municipality of Groningen. She is also a member of the new Spatial Quality Committee, which will be established within the framework of the Environment Act. She is the head of the City Architect Studio of the Municipality of Groningen.

In the lecture, De Vries will elaborate on her vision of the city architect position and the way in which she will fulfil it in the coming years.

After the lecture there will be room for discussion, with architectural historian Tino Mager (RUG) acting as moderator.
