MUSEUM OF… AND THE LOSS OF L’ART POUR L’ART

OFF HOOK
4 October 2024 to 15 November 2024

About this activity.

Museum of… is a project that originates from somewhere in the European countryside, where it was initially built on a deserted piece of land. Museum of… is a hidden pavilion; a construction that claims to be a museum but actually is an artwork that refuses to be defined. It is a monument, exhibition space, a museum and a work - hidden in a no-man’s-land, that can only be found through its geographic coordinates. A place for art and its viewer, shielded from the large public. An independent initiative that does not engage with the market, populism, politics or social engagement and defies superimposed opinions. Museum of… is a place and an artwork that can be discovered and savored in solitude, without any external influences, as a highly personal experience.

Museum of… was founded in January 2014, at the coordinates; 39.604271, -8.325293, where nine presentations were organized. In 2016 it moved its premises to a different location to continue the activities at the coordinates; 50.690472, 15.201889, where thirteen presentations took place. The new Museum of… is called Museum of it’s about Nothing and opened in March 2023 at the coordinates: 53.210901, 6.534937, it’s a counterpart of the previous Museums, has left the white cube behind, and is located in a completely different environment. The current Museum of… Pavilion has set foot in the neighborhood of Groningen, see coordinates: 53.210901, 6.534937.

The presentations in Museum of… are based on her Collection, which consists of elements that have been on display in the past or maybe will be on display during future presentations. Together these elements form a kind of data bank for the Collection to treat in a dynamic way. Museum of… considers itself free to use, remove or add elements for the realization of new constellations and to address and stimulate imagination as well as an alternative way of looking at art. Museum of… also has an online Library and Shop.

Especially for OFF HOOK, Museum of… is presenting a selection of titles from The Library - a collection of books about art, called L’Art pour L’Art - all of which have canvas hardcovers and pages that are covered in oil-paint. While the content is now lost, the cover and title will trigger the imagination. They will be combined with several items from the Paint-can Surgery and Representing the Lost Painting series that have been selected from The Shop.

For this exhibition a new silkscreen by Museum of… will be produced in collaboration with Zeefdruk Atelier Hogeland in Warffum.
