Minne Vijver - Retrospective exhibition

In this exhibition, Kunsthandel Peter ter Braak shows a unique overview of work by Minne Vijver from the past fifty years.
Painter, draftsman and graphic artist Minne Vijver (Franeker 1950) divides his work into figures, landscapes, torsos, flags and self-portraits. He made work trips to the Netherlands and to Germany, Italy, Slovenia and the (former) Soviet Union.
Although he is not generous with words about his work, Vijver says about an exhibition of landscapes: 'These are abstract landscapes inspired by the province of Groningen. Horizontal lines and forms in free color fields.' About an exhibition of torsos: 'I have been making model drawings with colleagues once a week for twenty years. Based on these drawings, I made pieces: back pieces.' And about a work trip to Murmansk: 'The colors of autumn in Murmansk touched and inspired me. I thought the color transitions of nature were really beautiful. I have incorporated this into my paintings.'
Jos Art, a gallery in Amsterdam, once wrote: 'Minne Vijver makes intriguing work because you do not realize at a glance what you are actually seeing. He seems to hide many layers of content in and under the paint. Vijver's work is mainly abstract and even if there are recognizable elements or figures, they still have more of an abstract than a figurative character.'

Daarnaast exposeert de kunsthandel regelmatig hedendaagse kunst, veelal uit het noorden des lands.
