Metal Alchemy
About this activity.
Starting from September 12, Kunstpunt presents the solo exhibition ‘Metal Alchemy’ by Eirik Jahnsen. In his series of metal works, Jahnsen sculpts with light. The artist plays with the contrast between the industrial material and the elusive light that reflects off it. By working the metal with fire, force, and chemicals, surprising shapes, colors, and textures emerge. As you move around the objects and see your own reflection, you become part of the artwork for a moment.
Jahnsen’s art explores the endless possibilities of materials and is the result of experimentation in his studio. He embraces chance to push the boundaries of our ideals. His works continuously visualize and document energies, entropy, and other processes.
The exhibition ‘Metal Alchemy’ will be on view at Kunstpunt Groningen until October 26. Would you like to enjoy his work for longer? Good news! You can borrow or purchase the artworks at Kunstpunt's Art Rental.
About Eirik Jahnsen
Eirik Jahnsen (1985) lives and works in Groningen but grew up in Bergen, Norway. He draws a lot of inspiration from his upbringing there: “I was surrounded by an impressive landscape with mountains while also experiencing the busy city life. It was an interesting clash between two worlds. In my work, I often combine things that don’t normally belong together.” In 2017, Eirik earned his Bachelor’s degree at Academie Minerva, and in 2021, he graduated with a Master of Painting from the Frank Mohr Institute. His work has previously been exhibited at places like Sculpture Garden Ravesteyn and Kunstencentrum K38. He also created the sculpture 'Mirror/Mirror' specifically for ESNS Art 2023, commissioned by Kunstpunt and ESNS, which was displayed at the Grote Markt during the festival. The sculpture is now at Stichting Artphy in Onstwedde.
The Choice Of
For this exhibition, Jahnsen also showcases his favorite pieces from the Art Rental collection. His fascination with cities and architecture is reflected in the selection, which includes various techniques such as paintings, drawings, and photography.
Studio Collection: Solo
This exhibition is part of our series 'Studio Collection: Solo', in which we present work by Northern artists. The art comes directly from their studios.
