For her project MATRIARCHAAT, Susanne Luurs invited two other artists, Debora Westra and Marloes Hoogeveen, to jointly explore what the hypothetical Groningen landscape would look like in a matriarchal society.
Matriarchal societies are not about reversing patriarchal structures, but about creating a society based on balance, respect and reciprocity between all genders. There are only a few contemporary examples of communities that exhibit matriarchal characteristics, such as Mosuo in China, Minangkabau in Indonesia, Bijagos in Guinea-Bissau and Kihnu in Estonia.
Susanne asked AI to make predictions about the impact of a future matriarchy on the Groningen landscape. How might this new social structure change the landscape? AI's answers served as a starting point for new work.
The exhibition will feature both individual works and collaborative work by the three artists, as well as the results of their conversations with AI. The three women present their views on the possible changes a matriarchal society could bring to landscapes.
Susanne Luurs (b. 1994) lives and works in Groningen. She graduated from Academie Minerva and won the art education prize with her work. She has since been working as a performance artist, investigating the influence of human choices and actions on the earth. Education plays an important role in her artistry. She involves other creators and the public in her explorations through interactive installations and rituals.
On July 10 and 11, visitors are welcome to see how the world is created. A performance will take place at the opening on July 12. On July 27 and 28, there will be talks and rituals.

Galerie Noord wordt volledig gerund door vrijwilligers. In 1997 werd de galerie opgericht als kunstenaarsinitiatief.
