Match: Masterpiece from the Rijksmuseum visits Museum De Buitenplaats
This summer, twelve masterpieces from the Rijksmuseum's Gallery of Honor will travel to twelve museums in the Netherlands. One in each province. The masterpieces are presented in these museums next to a related work from their own collection. It will be an intimate encounter between two works of art: a perfect match.
Museum De Buitenplaats in Eelde can also count itself among the participating museums. From 2 July to 3 September 2023, Museum De Buitenplaats will exhibit an exceptional duo of two female artists. The painting The Serenade (1629) by Judith Leyster hangs side by side in Eelde with a work by Olga Wiese from the own collection, entitled Sandvikens Troost (ca. 2003).
Twelve museums, twelve masterpieces
The museums participating in this project are spread across the Netherlands. They have each selected a suitable masterpiece from the Rijksmuseum to combine with a masterpiece from their own collection. The project is an initiative of the M6 Foundation, under the motto 'Match'.
Book Match
The exhibition will be accompanied by a richly illustrated book depicting all 24 works of art. Twelve authors contributed to this publication. For the match in Eelde, that is Princess Marilène van Oranje-Nassau, Van den Broek, who writes about the meeting of Leyster and Wiese in the special setting of Museum De Buitenplaats.
In addition to Museum De Buitenplaats, the participating museums are: Gemeentemuseum het Hannemahuis, Groninger Museum, Stedelijk Museum Kampen, Museum Nagele, Museum Henriette Polak, Stedelijk Museum Alkmaar, Museum Huis Doorn, Museum Gouda, Zeeuws Museum, Museum het Markiezenhof and the Limburgs Museum. In Drents Museum De Buitenplaats is er voor iedereen wat te ontdekken!
Drents Museum De Buitenplaats in Eelde is weer open! Onder een nieuwe naam en met een nieuwe koers. Vanaf 2024 is Drents Museum De Buitenplaats volwaardig onderdeel van het Drents Museum in Assen. In het vernieuwde museum krijgt de kust uit de art nouveau de hoofdrol, met als uitgangspunt de collectie kunst rond 1900 van het Drents Museum.
Het ensemble De Buitenplaats omvat het 20ste-eeuwse museumpaviljoen en vaste tuin én het 17de-eeuwse Nijsinghhuis met muurschilderingen van de Noordelijke Figuratieven. Het Drentse Landschap is eigenaar van het ensemble en draagt zorg voor het beheer.
