Gert Sennema - Emblemata
About this activity.
The work of sculptor Gert Sennema (1962) was last on display in 2022, in the Peter ter Braak art dealership. The book “Reliquary of Stories” was published at this exhibition, on the occasion of the artist's sixtieth birthday. The images and wall objects were created during a period of isolation as a result of the pandemic.
In the “Emblemata” exhibition, humans, animals and matter remain the starting point for the sculptures. The work of recent years consists of different materials and techniques, but wood continues to predominate.
In the sculptures and wall objects, nature is contained in a symbolic narrative, which arises from the artist's personal history. The raw material is often accompanied by refined motifs. Associations and unprecedented meanings arise from wonder and the play with matter. The commissioned images always reflect on the place and its meaning. This exhibition contains work that only reflects on inner space and a personal involvement with the disenchanted world.
