John Konijn (1979, HKU) describes his style as a combination between abstract and figurative. Konijn is a sensitive person and you can see this in the work he creates. In the painting process, which can sometimes take hours and sometimes days, he is as whirling as his personality. Regularly, he applies his paint to the canvas not ironing, but beating. This is reflected in his energetic, expressionist canvases, all of which contain more stories than first appears. With a successful combination of bright and earthy tones, Konijn manages to find a good balance each time, an ideal that is not always obvious in this sprightly artist's personal life. However, this search for calm works perfectly in his working corridor, as he manages to create points of calm in each dynamic work.
