About this activity.

Lin-Shi Kok Impressive and colorful works

Lin-Shi Kok (1998) works as an artist in Groningen and graduated from the Minerva Academy of Fine Arts in 2024.
Lin's favorite medium is textiles, she likes to work with the soft and comforting character of the material. Her main characters, playful and humorous, carry a subtle idiosyncrasy. Whether it concerns paintings, prints, fabrics or ceramics, Lin tries to take the viewer into her colorful, but unique world.
'I try to make heavy subjects a bit lighter through my work and to talk about the connection between people and the difficulties that come with it. I prefer to do this with my work, not with my words. Textiles are a material that invites you to touch them, they easily connect and give a sense of security that other materials do not have. In this context, I did research into security and how fabrics can convey this through a work of art with hands. People felt embraced by those hands.’ In addition to working on new exhibitions and projects, Lin works in an art shop and designs posters for Vera.

Shiva Miryektah A Playground for the Mind

Shiva Miryektah A Playground for the Mind Shiva (1987) is an Iranian artist from Tehran, based in Groningen. At the age of 33, she decided to pursue her true passion, Art! She did this by following a course at the Groningen Minerva Art Academy. She now meticulously paints her often colorful works of acrylic on canvas. By changing the surface of the canvas into a visual bombardment of information, she forms a fragile but solid playground for the mind. 'I investigate the continuous visual tension, the spatial depth and the interaction between organic and geometric shapes. In this process I use color, composition, overlapping and transparent layers of color to evoke visual experiences. Also by means of soft layers of airbrush, precision and color, I create a virtual space in which the viewers can project themselves. In this I use perspective techniques to exploit the illusion of depth'.

Anna Trefilova Nature as a source of inspiration
‘Nature has always been my greatest source of inspiration; The variety of shapes and colors fascinates me. I was amazed by the sky and the division of space in the Netherlands. In this country the sky is the largest I have ever seen. In a big city you might not notice it, but in nature or in the countryside you only see the land and the sky. In combination with the sea, this expansive view encourages a rethinking of space and the way we portray it. When depicting these landscapes, I do not aim to capture what I see in front of me, but above all to express my feelings and my admiration.

By weaving personal stories into my creations, I invite viewers to open themselves up to their own feelings and reflections, which promotes a deeper understanding, experience and also enjoyment of the works.

In the summer, Anna did an internship at Marte Mei Makes. There she not only learned more about ceramics but was also given the opportunity to make illustrations for the project ‘Polluted plants to Pottery’ that is participating in the Dutch Design Week.

Jorn van Til On the way to ‘Museum work’

Jorn van Til initially started with illustration, but later developed a fascination for painting. Fascinated by space, shape, color, contrast, composition and simplicity. He is known for his perfectionist approach to his work and strives for what he calls ‘museum work’, with the aim of presenting his work in a museum-worthy manner.

While working on new paintings, he tries to create a more abstract image from a realistic image by taking shapes and color from a self-made photo and translating them into shapes such as blocks and other lines. Jorn examines these everyday shapes from architecture and nature by using photography.
