Exhibition: 'We are animals'

De Stadsgalerie
22 October 2023 to 3 December 2023

About this activity.

During this latest exhibition, we provide a platform for animals. The interaction between humans and animals is an endless source of inspiration. Animals can amaze, move us, and make us laugh. Sometimes, animals exhibit human-like qualities... and vice versa. Do we really differ so much from each other?

Robin D'Arcy Shillcock's paintings are tributes to individual animals, memories of moments of happiness he shared with them. His work emerges from emotion and observation. D'Arcy Shillcock draws and paints to slow down the passage of time.

Renowned artist Rein Pol, known for his landscapes featuring the so called ‘Blue Angels,' (trains) also enjoys painting humans, still lifes, and animal portraits. He has a special connection with pigs from his youth and has painted piglets preserved in jars multiple times, creating 'a touching scene because a poor animal can't move inside a jar...'

Hinke Posthuma's paintings are characterized by carefully chosen, modest color usage, compositions, striking perspectives, and unique framing. She often seeks inspiration in North Groningen. She lies among the sheep on the dike, visits farms, and even in the city, there are plenty of animals that inspire her.

Of course, we also showcase paintings from the regular members of the Stadsgalerie: Peter Durieux, Roelie Douw, Jannes Koetsier, Marein Konijn, Magna Postma, and Annemarie de Groot.

You are warmly invited to the festive opening on Sunday afternoon, October 22nd, at 4:00 PM.
