Exhibition 'The Rooks' by Henry Hes, Marcel Imthorn and Marius de Schaar

From 1 to 31 August 2023, Henry Hes, poet from Lewenborg, will exhibit a screen print 'The Rooks' in window gallery 'De Prachtvink' at shopping center Vinkhuizen, Platinalaan 505a, 9743 GZ Groningen.
'The Rooks' is a screen print of 70 x 50 cm in two printing runs. On July 13, 2023, the Groninger poet Henry Hes celebrated his 77th birthday. He decided that that was a good reason to publish one of his best poems 'De Rooks' as a screen print. He approached cutting artist Marius de Schaar to make a matching illustration. Marius approached Marcel Imthorn to make a graphic design with the poem and the drawing. Marcel approached Julia de Jong to make a screen print of it. The edition has 77 copies. Hes has given most of it away to family, friends and acquaintances. A small part is available for sale.
The Rooks gives an impression of a winter scene from long ago. In five verses the poet describes the fascinating sight of a swarm of rooks above an icy landscape. In the words of Hes:
“The swarm turns and turns / and once more by chance / crosses the place of the admiring gaze.”
Henry Hes (1946) is a poet, who writes in Dutch and in the Groningue language, living in Lewenborg. He has numerous publications in Groningue-dialect and Dutch to his name. He has been a well known citizen of Groningue since 1966 when he stirred up controversy with his long hair and the magazine LUCA. Since then he has contributed to many magazines, including KLADBLOK and was part of several editorial boards. In 1990 his work was awarded with the Wilhelmina Sifkes Prize, a prize for Low Saxon literature in the city of Leer.
The window gallery is an exhibition space that can only be viewed from the outside, but 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The gallery is illuminated until 11:00 PM.
