Eddy Taatgen - 50 years photographer
About this activity.
On the occasion of ESNS, concert photographer Eddy Taatgen (Groningen, 1954) exhibits an overview of his work in Galerie Peter ter Braak.
At the age of 18, Eddy bought his first camera. Walking through town and country, he records what he encounters: people, buildings, cityscapes, landscapes. From the age of 20, he has been experimenting in his attic room with a self-created darkroom and working with liquids and lighting. In 1980, the year in which Eddy discovered his love for England, he took his first concert photo: a photo of Kim Wilde. The black-and-white print he developed himself still adorns his living room wall.
Around 1990, Eddy bought his first digital camera, and the need for a darkroom disappeared. Working (manually) with a digital camera is faster, and the result is immediately visible. From 2005 onwards, Eddy comes into more and more contact with English music groups, which he follows and records. This extends to bands that come to perform in his own city. For Eddy, the focus is on capturing facial expressions, expression and atmosphere.
Eddy has now been taking photographs for 50 years, of which the last 20 years have mainly been concert photography. A wonderful moment for his first solo exhibition. Here you will see a selection of his most successful photos from the past period. Many photos were taken at music venues in Groningen, such as during Eurosonic. But also photos taken in other European countries.
