Now on Diplay: Chasing Ballad of the Changing Baton

Kunstpunt Groningen
31 October 2024 to 21 December 2024

About this activity.

Starting on October 31st, Kunstpunt Groningen will present the Studio Collection: the duo exhibition Chasing Ballad of the Changing Baton featuring artists Tosja van Lieshout and Muzammil Hussain. Both artists graduated this year from the Frank Mohr Institute.

Muzammil Hussain
Muzammil Hussain (1996) is fascinated by the animal kingdom and its similarities to human behavior. His paintings feature animals and human-animal figures, blending human traits with animal forms and everyday situations. These beings may remind viewers of Pokémon or WhatsApp stickers. By mixing the familiar with the fantastical, he explores the boundaries between reality and imagination, nature and artificiality, challenging societal norms and their limitations.

Muzammil grew up in India and currently lives and works in Groningen. After studying at ArtEZ in Enschede and Arts University Bournemouth in England, he graduated this year from the Frank Mohr Institute. His work has previously been exhibited at Arti et Amicitiae in Amsterdam, Huis Vasari, and the NAP+ Art Fair.

Tosja van Lieshout
Tosja van Lieshout (1999) creates paintings that serve as a kind of visual diary, giving space to her thoughts, feelings, and memories. Her work addresses the challenges of life as a twenty-something, such as longing, loss, loneliness, and uncertainty. Tosja draws her inspiration from nature. After a stay in the French countryside, she was inspired by the transition from summer to autumn. This is reflected in her use of color, where bright, vivid tones slowly shift to deep reds, purples, and greens.

In 2020, Tosja won the AKV St Joost/ Van Gogh AiR prize, which led to an artist residency at the guest studio of the Vincent Van Gogh House. This year, she exhibited at the Yellow Gallery in Leiden and graduated with a Master of Arts from the Frank Mohr Institute in June.

The exhibition Chasing Ballad of the Changing Baton will be on display until December 21st in the Cella exhibition space at Kunstpunt. Want to enjoy the works of Tosja van Lieshout or Muzammil Hussain for longer? Good news! Their artworks are available for loan or purchase at Kunstpunt.

For this exhibition, Tosja and Muzammil will also showcase their favorite works from the Art Rental collection.
